The Art of Facial Balancing with Dermal Fillers

After the age of 20, we lose a teaspoon of volume in our face every year! Pretty unfair right? The good news is we have a safe, effective, and natural way to restore volume loss and combat the signs of aging. Whether you are noticing more prominent nasolabial folds, hollowness in the under-eye area or cheeks, more pronounced jowls, or sunken temples - dermal fillers are the answer! Filler is also used to give enhancements to the lips and chin to achieve facial balancing.

So what exactly are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid- a naturally occurring sugar molecule within our body. Where Botox works on softening muscle contraction, dermal fillers add volume to the face in order to achieve a more balanced harmonious facial contour. While Botox takes 7-14 days to see results, filler effects are immediate. Click here for a more detailed Q&A on dermal fillers

What areas are most commonly treated with filler?

As experts in facial anatomy, we understand how to properly address any concerns you may have. We will work together to create a customized treatment plan for you, utilizing a combination of botox and filler.

What is a Liquid Facelift?

Check out Dr. Zand’s beautiful Liquid Facelift results achieved with 5 syringes of filler, performed by PA Lexi. For reference - one syringe is the volume of blueberry, so don’t let the number overwhelm you!

For Dr. Zand, we treated her temples, cheeks, under-eye, nasolabial folds, and lips. By restoring lateral volume in the sides of the face, cheeks, and temples, we were able to lift the lower face and define her jawline. This “Zand Master Lift” technique restores the beautiful natural contour of a youthful healthy face.

Will filler make me look weird?

One of the main questions we get from first-time filler patients is, “Am I going to look weird?” The answer is emphatically NO! We care too much about you, your face, preserving your natural beauty and our own reputation. We will advise you on the minimum syringes needed to achieve optimal results, and we will not let you look overdone.

Notice the natural enhancement of Dr. Zand’s lips. We simply corrected for symmetry (enhanced the volume of her left top lip to match the right) and added a touch of volume throughout. We take a less-is-more approach to lips, as overdone lips can be a tell-tale sign of poor filler work.

What if I had bad filler results in the past?

A big part of our practice is fixing and finessing our patients’ prior filler work. We will advise you when dissolving is necessary, for instance, to correct overly filled “duck lips.” We are experts at softening and camouflaging “Maleficent” cheeks. And we will not let you walk out of our office as a “peanut head” – we recommend filling “skeletal” temples which instantly brings natural harmony back to your face. These are advanced techniques that we routinely use to fix other injectors’ work, and restore patients’ faith in the transformative power of well-designed filler.

Have more questions?

Come see Dr. Zand or Lexi for a cosmetic consult. We will educate you on what results are achievable and realistic, and help develop a priority plan to optimize your transformation. While most of our patients opt for 2-3 syringes per treatment, performed 1-2 times per year, we work with every budget from a half syringe to a full 5-syringe Liquid Facelift.
